Winifred C. Martz, affectionately known as “Winnie”, 98, passed away June 22, 2016, at 10:45 pm, at Van Crest Health Care Center of Delphos

She was born May 25, 1918 in Alexandria, IN, to William and Greta Marie Mumaugh Etchison who preceded her in death. On March 2, 1936 she married Jesse Martz who preceded her in death on October 5, 1994.

Winnie had previously worked as a clerk for the Sugar Creek Gomer School Board. She was a homemaker and farm wife whose life was centered around her family and the farm. Winnie was a member of Lima Baptist Temple for 50 yrs. and a member of Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at St. Rita’s Medical Center for 15 yrs. Winnie enjoyed playing eucher and bingo.

Survivors include her son, James D. “Jim” Martz of Gomer; three grandchildren, Jan Earl Chapman of Paulding, Mickey Paula Martz of Elida, and Jeff Denise Martz of Gomer; six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Winnie was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jacklyn Martz and half-brother, William L Etchison.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, June 27, 2016 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Rev. Gary Hohman to officiate the service. Burial will be in Alstaetter Cemetery following the service.

Friends may call from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016 and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers of the Primrose Retirement Community, St. Rita’s Medical Center, St. Rita’s Hospice and Van Crest of Delphos.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Baptist Temple or to Allen County Fair Gospel Tent.
