Willis Bill Meier, age 82, died of natural causes after a brief illness on October 1, 2015 and went to be with his Lord.

Willis was born in Lima Ohio June 11, 1933 to Harley and Effie Harris Meier. On April 7, 1997 he was married to Delilah Hudson in St. Ignace MI. She died peacefully on November 26, 2005.

Previously, Willis had married Jan Corson on September 11, 1953 and together had 4 children. Pat Eberle has been Willis’ best friend and companion since 2005.

Willis retired from the Lima Police Department after 28 years of service to the community. The last 16 years of service was as the School Safety Officer. During this time, a favorite project of his which also bore his name was the development of Safety City on South Collett Street. Here he held classes for students from Pre-kindergarten through High School for all Allen County Schools.

After retirement from the Lima Police Department, he purchased both a Mack and a Peterbilt Semi Tractor and proceeded to put a combined 1.4 million miles while driving in 45 of the 50 states before retiring a second time.

He is a reserve member of the Lima Noon Optimist Club, was a former advisor to Boy Scouts of America, and is a lifetime member of the Ohio PTA.

Survivors include a son, Robert Lisa MacKellar Meier of Columbus, OH; a son William “Bo” Gina Barto Meier of Lancaster, PA; a daughter Tracy Szilagye, Whitefish, MT; a step-son Tom Cheryl Hudson, FL; a step-son Carey Becky Hudson, Maumee, OH; two step daughters, Rhonda Ulman, Lima, OH; Terry Terry Lynn Gudakunst, Celina, OH; son-in-law Luke Witte of Ottawa, OH; sisters Katie Desenberg, Lima, OH, Joan Klein, Greenville, OH, Barb Hauenstein, Lima, OH and Lois Granick, Columbus, OH; sister-in-law Ann Meier, Lima, OH. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Terry Meier Witte and a brother Jack Meier.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 5, 2015 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, Celebrating the service will be Bob Butler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Safety City via the Lima Noon Optimist Foundation, PO Box 428, Lima, Ohio 45802. Willis has a great many friends with stories and memories. Few people ever get to make an impact in a community the way he did by dedicating his career to service of all the school children of the Lima Land area.
