William A. Weldy, Jr., 86, passed away at 3:39 pm March 2, 2018, at his residence.

He was born October 30, 1931 in Lima to William A. and Oneetah L. (Moree) Weldy, Sr. who preceded him in death. On November 4, 1951 he married Janice R. Bowersock who passed away on October 7, 2008.

He was a Claim Manager for Anthem Casualty Insurance Group, retiring in 1994. He was also retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was president of the Lima Adjustors Assn, designated an “Associate in Claims” by the Insurance Institute of America, and was a speaker for the Ohio Insurance Institute. He volunteered much of his time to the American Red Cross, Allen County Sheriff’s Senior Visitation Program and to Our Daily Bread soup kitchen. A Life Member of the VFW Post 14000 and a member of the American Legion Post 96, he also belonged to the U.S. Naval Cryptologic Veterans’ Association. He was a member of the Church of Christ. His Amateur Radio License was WD8CCN.

Survivors include: 3 Sons, David M. (Elizabeth) Weldy and William Scott (Peggy) Weldy, both of Lima, Daniel C. Weldy of Van Wert; 3 Daughters, Jill A. (Marshall) Campbell of Lima, Tracy L. (Douglas) Bowersock of Ft. Wayne, Amy J. Weldy of Lima; 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren; a Brother, Michael L. Weldy of Elida; a Sister, Virginia L. (H. Robert) Laman of Lima; a Sister-in-law, Sharon Weldy of Lima; a Brother-in-law, David Bowsher of Lima

He was preceded in death by: a Brother, Joel M. Weldy; a Sister, Linda A. Bowsher.

Friends may call from 10:00 am until time of services at 2:00 pm Wednesday at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Dr. Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post 1275 and the US Navy.
