Walter H. “Hig” Kincaid Sr, age 92, went to be with his Lord, December 22, 2017, at his son’s home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 16, 1925 to the late James and Blanche (Higdon) Kincaid in Etowah, Tennessee. He attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and joined the Navy during WWII. He served in London, England until being shipped back to the Naval Air Station at Quonset Point RI, where he met the love of his life, Rose Florence D’Amico in Mystic, Connecticut. They married on September 14, 1946 in Stonington, Connecticut and moved back to Ohio where he went into an apprenticeship program for the Painters Union Local #1020, from which he retired. He loved his family, Ohio State Football and his church, Westside United Methodist, where he was a member for over 50 years. He was an ordained Lay Speaker and sang for many years in the choir. His favorite hobby was acting on the stage of the Encore Theater. Hig, as he was known by his friends was as well known for his 30 plus years on stage and was considered by many to be an accomplished Thespian making people laugh and enjoy his on stage antics for many years and many plays. He was proud that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren followed him onto stage making his legacy of four generations a reality. Besides Encore Theater, he was also involved in productions of the Lima Symphony Orchestra, Barbershop Quartet and Lima Memorial Hospitals “High Fever Follies.”

Walter was preceded in death by a son, Marc A. Kincaid and three brothers and two sister-in-law’s, Kemper Kincaid, James (Ann) Kincaid, and Eugene (Lucy) Kincaid.

He is survived by two sons, Wally (Peggy) Kincaid, John (Wendy Oxenhandler) Kincaid; two daughters, Gina (Doug) Sanners, Pam Cockerell and close family friend, Denise Maynard; ten grandchildren, Angie (Gregg Burgoon) Hickman, April (Robert Lizotte) Kincaid, John (Missy) Weldon, Allison (Chris) Hayes, Christine Kincaid, DJ (Danielle) Cockerell, Roman Cockerell, Anthony Douglas Sanners, Nick Sanners, Jesse Sanners and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank his granddaughter, Angie, the caring nurses and aids from Interim Health Care and Hospice and the wonderful caregivers from Comfort Keepers for their help and support in our fathers care during our time of need.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the funeral home. Pastor Josh Andrews will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy and VFW #1275.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
