Roger L. Austin, age 84, passed away May 6, 2018, at 1:30 am, at the Lost Creek Care Center.

Roger was born May 6, 1934 in Lima, OH, to James T. and Myrtle C. (Plummer) Austin who preceded him in death. On September 24, 1956 he married Demarius “Dee” A. (Humes) Austin who survives in Lima.

Roger had attended Lima South High School. He then joined the U.S. Army National Guard where he had served stateside during the Korean War. When he was finished serving his country he went to work for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. He worked collectively with the railroad for 44 years retiring from Conrail in 1997. He was a co-owner and beekeeper of the Wildwood Apiary. Roger enjoyed tinkering around the house and antiquing. He also was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by his children: Candace (Jim) Connolly of Washington, PA, Douglas (Helen Fink) Austin of Lima, OH, Mark (Christina Beckman) Austin of Wapakoneta, OH and Steven (Connie Pelfrey) Austin of Lima, OH, 6 grandchildren: Misty (David) Stricker, Patrick (Tiffany) Connolly, Cody Austin, Shawn Connolly, Troy Austin and Dakota (Mason) Schmalenberger, 4 great grandchildren: Tanner, Payden, Colin and Xander, and a brother, John (Irene) Austin of Lima, OH. He was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Marjorie (Howard) Thompson, Wesley (Jane) Austin, Howard (Mabel) Austin, Donna (Ralph) Edwards, Robert Austin and James A. Austin.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Pastor David Holbrook. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Military honors will be provided by the VFW #1275 and the U.S. Army.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-8 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Rita’s Hospice. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
