Roger A. Johns, 88, of Lima, was called by our Lord Jesus Christ to come fish in his reservoirs in heaven at 11:57 PM on Friday, October 16, 2015.

He was born on November 25, 1926 in Allen County to Sylvester A. and Allie V. Lybarger Johns, who both preceded him in death. On February 8, 1947, he married Christina M. Hooker, who survives in Lima.

Roger was self-employed owner of R & J Plastering and worked for the City Of Lima water department, retiring in 1992. Roger’s family is proud that their dad proudly served in World War II in the US Navy on the ship Restorer ARS-17 in Northern Africa, Italy and Southern France in 1944 and 1945. He was a life member of the VFW Post 9381, Ada. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 96, Lima and the Eagles Aerie 370, Lima. Roger loved to fish and hunt; he taught his sons and grandsons a lot over the years and even shared some of his secrets with his close fishing buddies. They would call him to get the most recent fishing report, as to what bait to use and where the fish were biting. He loved to watch football on TV, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes! Even though he was not a golfer, he loved to watch golf on TV.

Surviving are sons Joe Michael Johns of Lima, Dan Roger Johns of Dayton, Robert E. Patricia Johns of Lima; daughters Pamela K. Charles Burnett of Lima, Sheryl Ann Richard Bentley of Lima, Laura Leeann Bill Clark of Lima; daughter-in-law Beth Johns of Lima; fifteen grandchildren; one step-grandson; thirty-two great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Terry Allen and Kevin Wayne Johns; granddaughter Wendy Johns; brothers Jessie and Harry John; sister Florence Winner.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Matthias Snodderly officiating.

Interment will be in Shawnee Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 1275.
