Robert J. “York” Engberg, 65, passed away at 10:02 am, Monday, June 25, 2018 at Lima Memorial Health System.

York was born April 20, 1953 in Flushing, NY, to Gustav D. and Claire (Murray) Engberg who preceded him in death. He was formerly married to Karen Swain Engberg who survives in Lima.

York was an U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. For many years he had been employed as a telephone contractor with Tom’s Installation Company. Prior to that he had been employed by General Dynamics and Westinghouse. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose. Orioles #173 and American Legion Post 96. York was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, cooking and horseshoes. He loved life and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Karrie (Roosevelt) Savage of Lima; 3 sons, Christopher (Samantha) Engberg of Lima , Jason (Mandi Vermillion) Hart of Lima, and Joshua (Melanie Beam) Hart of Lincoln, NE; 3 brothers, Douglas (Rhonda) Engberg of Hillsboro, Thomas (Amy) Engberg of Lima, and Rick (Amy) Engberg of Lima; 2 sisters, Claire (Al) Grapner of Cridersville and Mary Ann Engberg of Saint Mary’s.; 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Sue Engberg.

Services will be 7:00 pm, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Rev.Gary Beatty will officiate..

Friends may call from 4:00 pm until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Temple, Dr. Hatton and the many nurses with Putnam County Hospice and Lima Memorial Health System for the special care York received.
