Paul James “Jim” Walther, age 91, passed away at 8:37 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Jim was born January 1, 1927 in Spencerville, OH, to the late Carl F. and Neva C. (Rupert) Walther. On June 22, 1947 he married E. Ellen (Adams) Walther who preceded him in death on June 25, 2005.
Jim was a graduate of Spencerville High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim served as Chief Chemical Operator for Vistron, formerly the SOHIO Chemical Co., retiring in 1985. He was a dedicated member of Shawnee United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the VFW Bowersock Brothers Post #6772, Spencerville. Jim enjoyed basketball, sprint car racing, car shows and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Most of all he was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by three children, James (Ginger) Walther of Maineville, Patti (Darryl) Nichols of Elida and Karen (Tony) Boitnott of Lima; seven grandchildren, Jay (Amanda) Walther, Adam (Melissa) Walther, Kristen (Cory) Bonifas, Jonathan (Katy) Nichols, Matthew Nichols, Brent Boitnott and Marissa (Sam) Spiers; eleven great grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce, Alivia, Kinsley and Karsen Walther, Emersyn and Beckett Bonifas, Ethan Boitnott, Elliana, Noella and Isaiah Spiers and a sister-in-law, Miriam Adams.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Bonifas; Sister, Mary (Don) Bowersock; and two brothers-in-law, Don Adams, and Joyce “Joe” (Carolyn) Adams
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m, Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Shawnee United Methodist Church, 2600 Zurmehly Rd., Lima, OH 45806. Pastor Bryan Bucher will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and VFW Post #6772, Spencerville.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 15, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, at the church, prior to the funeral service.
