Merlin D. Goodman, age 89, was called home to Heaven at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at St. Rita’s Inpatient Hospice.

Merlin was born July 19, 1927 in Lima to the late Harva A. and Esther L. (Loveridge) Goodman. On August 31, 1957 he married the love of his life, Lorna Jean (Craig) Goodman who preceded him in death on November 19, 2007.

Merlin was a graduate of LaFayette Jackson High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He and his wife worked many years together, running Goodman’s Dairy Farm. In 1994 he retired from Procter and Gamble after 23 years of service. Merlin enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with his family. His greatest joy was working along side his wife and children on the family farm. Merlin was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and was an active member of the Lima community for many years. He served as a 4-H Advisor, was a member of the Allen County Dairy Service Unit, Ohio Guernsey Breeders Association, District 4 Guernsey Association, Allen County Farm Bureau, Board of Directors of the Cairo Elevator, as well as serving on the Bath Township Zoning Appeals Board for 50 years.

He was blessed with three children, Gregory D. Goodman, Bradley D. (Sharon M.) Goodman and Rhonda J. (Rodney L.) Wood all of Lima; grandchildren, Andrew (Meredith) Wood of Wapakoneta, Christopher (Carla) Goodman of Delaware, Adam Wood of Lima, Eric Goodman of Harrod, Rachel Goodman of Oregon, Corrine (Jacob) Rone of Lima, Courtney Goodman of Lima and Brittany Goodman of Lima.

Survivors also include a brother-in-law, Thomas (Cheryl) Craig of Bluffton and sister-in-law, Donna (Lonnie) Warren of Bluffton.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Donald Goodman.

Funeral services will begin 11:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2017 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Cairo West Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the VFW #1275.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, February 10, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.
