Mary A. Brinkman, 81, of Lima passed away at 2:55 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Springview Manor.

She was born on August 10, 1941 in Peoria, Illinois to Patrick and Maude (McKay) Comerford, who both preceded her in death. She married Arthur J. “Art” Brinkman on August 22, 1964, who preceded her in death on October 14, 2015.

Mary was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She had been a teacher at Westwood, St. Rose and Horace Elementary Schools in Lima before becoming a guidance counselor at St. Charles Catholic School. In 1983, while working at St. Charles, she was the co-founder of Positive Addiction, a program focusing on drug and alcohol prevention. She later worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Allen Correctional and Tri-Star and at St. Rita’s Medical Center in overnight crisis counseling. Because of all her community involvement she was inducted into the Lima Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame in 2013 for Community Service. Mary enjoyed shopping on Amazon, watching home improvement shows and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her son Michael J. Brinkman of Lima; her granddaughter Elise Brinkman; her sisters and brothers-in-law Janet (John) Skinner, Steven (Mary) Smith and JoAnn (David) Szippl. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son Brian M. Brinkman, her brothers Eddie and Kenny Comerford; her sister Kay Skaggs.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, where a parish wake services will be held at 8:00 PM. A Parish Wake Service will be at 8:00 PM following the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at St. Charles Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Father Kent Kaufman will officiate the Mass.

Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery at a later date.
