MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Luther “Pee Wee” Mays was born November 4, 1944, to the late Lennie, Sr. and Jeanette Fuqua Mays in Florence, AL. He moved to Lima, OH at the age of 8 years old with his family. He graduated from Perry High School in Lima, OH, being the only sibling of ten to graduate from high school. While there, he was an All-Star basketball and football player, playing in a number of state tournaments.
Luther married Mary “Tiny” Cummings in 1965. They enjoyed bowling and riding motorcycles together. Luther bowled a 300 point game and was the winner of money and prizes. He worked various jobs and later retired from the Steel Foundry.
Luther moved to Memphis, TN in 2007 to start a new venture in his life. He joined The Fellowship of Believers in Christ Church family under the leadership of Elder Joseph T. Jackson Sr., where he became a member of the Usher’s Ministry, and he opened many doors and greeted parishioners on Sunday mornings. He loved his church family and his church family loved him. You could often hear him saying “Thank you, Jesus, Thank you, Jesus,” while sitting or standing at his post.
