Leonard Eugene Staley, 85 of Lima, passed away June 6, 2022, at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Leonard was born December 24, 1936 in Lima, to Harold and Donnagrace (Swaney) Staley, who preceded him in death. He married Dorothy (Stoddard) Staley forever and a day ago; his wife survives him in Lima.

Leonard was a 1955 graduate of Lafayette Jackson High School where he was the class president and quarterback of the football team. He was a proud United States National Guard veteran and worked at Ford Motor Company for 37 years until his retirement in 1996. Leonard enjoyed attending and participating in car shows with his 1994 Mustang GT convertible and staying connected with friends and family on social media. He was a former member of React and the Lima Bean Choir, he was very involved in the Ford Union, a blacksmith who made horseshoes and he was a farrier. Leonard was passionate about politics and a proud American. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family; no visit was long enough. Leonard will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jack (Tammy) Saddler, Kandy (Stephen) Boggs, Jackie Myers, Leonard (Barbara) Staley, Jr., Penny (Terry) Law, Les (Betty) Staley and Amilea Staley; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Patricia) Staley; sisters, Shirley Amstutz and Dianna Walters; many nieces and nephews and his loving dog, Dottie.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Bill Randolph, Leslie Staley and Dan Saddler; granddaughter, Alisa Mae; brother, Dick (Carol) Cassidy; brother-in-law, Jerry Amstutz and Dale Walters and his step-mother, Cleo Staley.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Ted Bible to officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 10, 2022 and an hour before the funeral at the funeral home.
