Keith A. Bastian, age 92, passed away October 1, 2018, at 11:50 pm, at theVancrest Nursing Home of Delphos. Keith was born November 11, 1925, in Lima, OH, to Jay W. and Edith (Now) Bastian who preceded him in death. On January 12, 1946, he married Alice Ann (Brenneman) Bastian who preceded him in death on July 21, 2009, after 63 and 1/2 years of marriage.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, on a Destroyer, the U.S.S. Van Valkenburgh. He subsequently served as a Treasurer of the Van Valkenburgh Reunion Committee.
Keith graduated from Elida High School in 1943. After his service in WWII he attended Ohio Northern University, majoring in Accounting and Mathematics. He took additional courses at Cleveland College and Bowling Green University. He also had been a Registered Public Accountant in the State of Ohio. Keith had retired as Accounting Manager after 29 years with the Lima Chemicals Facility of BP/Sohio Chemical/ Standard Oil Co., in Lima, OH. He was a member of the Sohio’s Quarter Century Club. Keith and his wife also provided an independent accounting and income tax service, and continued this service after his retirement. He had been a Scout master and also enjoyed camping with his family.
Keith is survived by his children: Betsy (Noel) Brown of Dalhart, TX, Dan (Sandy) Bastian of Delphos, OH, David (Jenni) Bastian of Glendale, CA and Jim (Nicole) Bastian of Smithfield, RI, 4 grandchildren: Matt and Jennifer Brown, Cory and Adam Bastian, a sister, Janice Towns of Pavillion, WY and a brother, Mike Bastian of Pandora, OH. He was preceded in death by a brother in-law, Richard Towns and a sister in-law, Esther Bastian.
There will be a private graveside service held at a later date at the Salem Mennonite Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bryan Bucher. There will be military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the VFW #1275. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Food Pantry.
