Belle Center, OH Josephine “Jo Lou” Staley, age 87, passed away at 2:45 am on July 19, 2017 at her residence. Jo was born October 20, 1929 in Lima to Donald and Dorothy (James) Coon who preceded her in death. On December 21, 1951 she married Brice Staley who preceded her in death. Jo was a 1947 graduate of Lima South High School where she enjoyed basketball, softball and bowling. She began working in Lima City Schools’ Cadet Program from 1948 to 1952. She is a 1967 graduate of ONU and went back to the Cairo School Building from 1968 until it closed in 1982. Jo then transferred to Bath School from 1982 until she retired in 1992. She was a Martha Holden Jennings winner, Girl Scout Leader and had volunteered at the Allen County Museum, Johnny Appleseed Park and the Civic Center. Jo enjoyed fishing and boating at Indian Lake, playing cards, reading, gardening, sewing and crafts. She was a descendant of the first family in Allen County. Jo is survived by her children; Ellen (Dale) Meninga of Port Charlotte, FL, Cindy (Randy) Ebling of Findlay, OH, Patsy Marshall of Lima, OH and Sondra (Carl) DeLong of Punta Gorda, FL and Scott (Carol) Staley of Lima, OH, 7 grandchildren; Lynne (Dan) Boyle, Wade (Steven) Penhorwood Siytangco, Chad (Amy) Ebling, Carrie (Nathan) Beare, Matt (Jenna) Martin, Whitney (Todd) Dill and Erin Staley, 7 great-grandchildren and one on the way and a brother, Thomas (Cinda Barton) Coon of Columbus, OH. She also had numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:30 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. Ben Lowell. Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery following the service. Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed at chiles-lamanfh.com
