John A. Zink, 97 of Lima, passed away September 16, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family.

John was born August 18, 1921 in Saint Marys, OH, to William Lloyd and Helen (Boysell) Zink, who preceded him in death. On August 24, 1952 he married Norma (Schwieterman) Zink, who preceded him in death in 2008.

John graduated from Memorial High School in Saint Marys and he attended Ohio Northern University and The Ohio State University. He was a proud United States Navy veteran who served as a Naval Aviator during WWII. John was an oral surgeon and practiced at Oral Surgery Associates of Lima until he retired in 1989. He was a former member of the Shawnee Country Club and a former member of Lima Rotary; John was a long-time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lima #54 and the YMCA. He enjoyed golfing, playing tennis and racquetball and he loved to spend time with his family.

John is survived by his daughters, Jean Zink of Elida, OH, Janice (David) Pohlman of Ft. Jennings, OH and Susan (John) Dean of Columbus, OH; son, John A. (Kim) Zink, Jr. of Orange, CA; grandsons, John A. Zink, III and James A. Zink and his cat, Paulie.

In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by his brother, William L. Zink.

Funeral service will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Rev. David Stanford to officiate. Entombment will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors performed by VFW Post #1275 and active duty Navy.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. There will be an Elks Lodge of Sorrow service prior to the end of the visitation at 7:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima YMCA or Putnam County Hospice.
