Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2023 at St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima. Father David Ross officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL where a rosary service will take place at the 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joan M. Schimpf, 88, passed away July 10, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.Joan was born October 21, 1934 in Delphos to Norbert and Helen (Beck) Kill who preceded her in death. On October 5, 1957 she married James Schimpf who preceded her in death on March 2, 2009.
Joan was a graduate of St. Rose High School. She was an active member at St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose Altar and Rosary Society and a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul thrift store. She retired from Lima Central Catholic High School from the cafeteria in 1996 after many years of dedication. She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, reading, board games, gambling, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed spending her free time with her family. She loved Halloween and dressed as a witch every year, always looking forward to passing out candy and seeing her grandchildren. She loved the Buckeyes, the Indians, and the Cleveland Browns; she would occasionally root for the Bengals if the Browns were not playing.
She is survived by her eight children, Steve (Vicki) Schimpf of Lima, Kathy (Jack) Edgecomb of Cridersville, Tim (Jeanie) Schimpf of Lima, Joe (Melissa) Schimpf of Cridersville, Mary (Donald Jr. ) Van Schoyck of Delphos, Linda Williams of Lima, Matt (Jennie) Schimpf of Lima, and Mark (Jenny) Schimpf of Lima; twenty six grandchildren, Emily, Lydia, John, Jason, Michelle, Robert, Zach, Jessica, Amanda, Kyle, Trevor, Ashley, Brandon, Layla, Adam, Donnie, Stephanie, Courtney, Megan, Hannah, Abbe, Gavin, Jaide, Drew, Kendal, and Aden; twenty seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Olivia, Adalynn, Elwood, Emilia, Xavier, Jacynda, Amya, Elijah, Noah, Colton, Benjamin, Kalani, Reighlynn, Peyton, Emberly, Teegan, Navaeh, Mila, Callie, Paisley, Joey, Rhett, Hailey, Bridgett, Alex, and Jaxson; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Gossard.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two children, Cynthia Schimpf and Richard Schimpf; and two siblings, James Kill and Sue Gossard.
