Joan E. Bell, age 91, of Lima, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Rita’s Medical Center following a brief illness. Joan was born January 20, 1931, in Rockville, Connecticut to Harrison Clark and Evelyn Mae (Patterson) Dennison who preceded her in death. On June 9, 1956, she married William “Bill” Bell who preceded her in death in February 2022.

Joan was a 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of Westbrook Junior College in Maine and received her bachelors and masters degrees from Bowling Green University. Joan worked for Child & Family Services in Social Work and then taught at Brookhill Center in Ottawa, OH and Marimor School in Lima, OH till she retired in 1992.

Joan was a lifelong member of Market Street Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and on the Hospitality Committee. She cherished the friendships and support from this wonderful church family! Joan was also a lifelong member of Lost Creek Country Club where she met the love of her life and husband of 65 years. Joan made many wonderful friends on the golf links and managed two hole-in-ones along the way!

Joan was involved in many organizations and groups. She was in the Junior Service League, on the Easter Seals board, the Cerebral Palsy board, her weekly Bridge Club, the Luna Gin Group, Marimor Retiree Group, and the Friday night dinners with the best of friends! She was a den mother for Cub Scouts, room mother at school and was at every school / sporting event imaginable! She was loved by many because she greatly loved. She saw something good in everyone and cheered them on to be the best version of themselves. Friends and Family were everything to Joan.

Survivors include her children: Scott Bell of Sandusky, OH; Craig Bell of Bluffton, OH; and Kathy Bell of Huntsville, OH; 6 grandchildren: Lyndsey (Brooke) Hale, Hannah Bell, Grace Bell, William Bell, Rachael (Dillon) Bok, and Ashley (Wally) McGinnis and 4 great-grandchildren; Jack Cameron McGinnis; Will Hale; Ryatt Hale and Lennox Hale; a sister-in-law Nina B. Clark of Sun City West, AZ and Mandy Dick of Clarksville, IN; specials nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceding Joan in death were her parents, her husband Bill, her brother William “Bill” Dennison, brother-in-law Ron Bell, and sister-in-law Sue Bell and many loving friends with whom she is now reunited.

Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Market Street Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dottie Kaiser and Rev. Kenneth Chorle to officiate. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel and also from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Joan may be made to Market St. Presbyterian Church.
