James R. Higgins, age 75, passed away November 11, 2016, at 5:41 pm, in the Lima Memorial Health System E.R.

Jim was born March 13, 1941 in Lima, OH, to Herbert L. and Vera A. (Hauenstein) Higgins who preceded him in death. On July 21, 1963 he married Roberta C. “Bobbie” (Erskine) Higgins who survives in Lima.

Jim was a 1958 graduate of the Lima Senior High School. After high school Jim had worked as a machine repairman with the Lima Ford Engine Plant and worked there for 40 years until he retired in 1998. Jim was a 50 year member of the Central Christian Church where he had served as an Elder, Chairman of the Board and then also as a Life Elder. He had also coached in the Youth Basketball Program at church. Jim was a 5th generation removed descendant from “PHT”, the Shawnee Chief who signed the treaty to have the Shawnee Indians removed from this area. He was a HO model railroader for 60 years and was a member of the Lima Model Railroad Club.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his children; Jane C. (Jay Walsh) Higgins of Boston, MA and Donald L. (Jenifer) Higgins of Columbus, OH, a granddaughter, Lily C. Walsh of Boston, MA and a brother in-law, Dan Klingler of Ada, OH. He was preceded in death by a son, David James Higgins, a daughter, Julie Ann Higgins Knowland and a sister, Margaret A. Higgins Klingler.

There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL.

Officiating the service will be Dr. Norman Witthuhn.

Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date.

Friends may call on Thursday one hour prior to services at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allen County Humane Society.
