James “Jim” P. Bucher, age 80, passed away October 23, 2022, at 12:51 pm, at the Lima Memorial Health System. Jim was born November 29, 1941, in Bluffton, OH, to the late Dale A. and Alice E. (Thompson) Bucher. On March 23, 1967, he married Patricia “Pat” L. (Hughes) Bucher who survives in Lima.
Additional survivors include his children: Martha L. Hartzog of Yorktown, VA and Darren (Stephanie) Bucher of Lima, OH, 3 grandchildren: Josh (Taylor) Hartzog, Abby Hartzog and Nathan Hartzog, 2 great grandchildren: Asher and Alice Hartzog, a nephew that Jim and Pat raised, Adam (Mary) Snider of Lima, OH, a brother, John (Nancy) Bucher of Huntsville, OH and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Smith.
Jim was a 1959 graduate of Ada High School. For a short time he attended the Ohio Northern University until he joined the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. Jim had worked at Superior Coach, Warner Swasey and then for the last 30 years with Dana from which he retired in 2004. Jim was an avid fisherman, bowler and golfer. He also enjoyed his time in the garden and a good game of euchre with his co-workers. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bryan Bucher. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the VFW #1275.
Friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to Veteran’s Food Bank.
