James E. Fetter, 93, passed away on February 9, 2017, at 9:10 a.m. surrounded by his family. James was born November 3, 1923 in Lima, Ohio, to Jacob and Ida (Chiles) Fetter who preceded him in death. On March 10, 1945 he married Ruth (Snyder) Fetter who survives in Lima, Ohio.
James was a World War II Army veteran, having served in both Japan and the Philippine Islands. In 2016, his granddaughter, Mindy Lindsey took him on an Honor Flight in Washington, D.C. It was one of the highlights of his life. James worked at the Ford Motor Co. in Lima for 17 years and farmed with his brothers, Paul and Tom, for many years, as well. He was very actively involved with Union Chapel Missionary Church throughout the years, serving as a board member, trustee, deacon, Sunday School teacher and always offering help with general upkeep and maintenance of the church facilities. He was instrumental in the constructing of the present sanctuary at the church.
James is survived by three sons, Kenneth J. (Josephine) Fetter of South Bend, IN, Stephen L. (Brenda) Fetter of Elida, OH and Timothy P. (Kimberly) Fetter of Lima, OH, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters, Lewis Fetter, Catherine Esmond, Henrietta Fett, George Fetter, Cretoria Hefner, Lucille Augsburger, Paul Fetter, Russell Fetter, Thomas Fetter, Alice Prichard, and a toddler sister, Lavon Fetter.
Services will be held at Union Chapel Missionary Church on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:00AM. Officiating the service will be Pastor Andrew Fetter and Pastor Mark Bayliff. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery following the service.
Friends may call 3:00PM to 8:00PM on Sunday, February 12, 2017 and one hour prior to the services at Union Chapel Missionary Church, 4869 Ada Rd., Lima, Ohio 45801.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice, 575 Ottawa-Glandorf Rd #3, Ottawa, OH 45875. Family has entrusted CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES with funeral arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at chiles-lamanfh.com
