George J. Nixon, age 93, was called into the presence of the Lord at 12:30 pm, Monday, May 23, 2016, at Lima Convalescent Home.

George was born December 25, 1922 in Clarksburg, WV, to the late George and Pearl Bartlett Nixon. On December 23, 1943 he married the love of his life, Velma C. Farris Nixon who preceded him in death on February 20, 2010, after 66 wonderful years of marriage.

Mr. Nixon was a 1941 graduate of Shinnston High School, Shinnston, WV. He retired in 1986 from Green-Sawyer Construction. George was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple.

George and Velma were blessed with 5 children, Sue C. Bill Barnes of Lima, George “Ed” Donna” Nixon of Lynchburg, VA, Marcia L. Blackwell, who preceded them in death, Candace J. “Candy” Wyant of Elida and Anne M. Wayne Huff of Chuckey, TN; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include, son in law, Jim Blackwell of Springfield, MO, former son-in-law, Dave Wyant of Elida, 3 sisters-in-law, Barb Nixon of Wapakoneta, Eleanor Archer of Charleston, NC and Sheryl Farris of AK and a brother-in-law , Harold Farris of Dayton.

He is preceded in death by grandson, Anthony L. “Tony” Barnes, 3 brothers, John R. Nixon, William Robert Nixon and Roy Moses Nixon; 3 sisters, Ruth Marie Wolverton, Beatrice May Kerr and Mary Lee Gerard; 4 sisters-in-law, Jean Clise, Patricia Browder, Evelyn George and Beth Farris.

Funeral services will begin 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm Friday, May 27 two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
