Geneva “Willie” Hixon passed through the gates of Heaven at the age of 91 on July 10, 2018. She was the seventh of seven children born to Jesse and Irene Van Dyke Williams. Geneva was born December 28, 1926 in Clay County, IL.
She graduated from the Louisville Community High School in Louisville, IL. She graduated from the Olney Sanitarium School of Nursing, where she acquired the nickname “Willie”. It was there that she met, fell in love with and married a young ex-marine by the name of Joe Hixon. They were married 69 years. To this union two sons were born, David and Mark.
After becoming a registered nurse she worked at the Olney Sanitarium, Weber Clinic, the Lima Tuberculosis Sanitarium and did private duty nursing. In 1960 they relocated to Lima, OH due to her husband transferring from SOHIO Pipeline in Clay City, IL to SOHIO Chemical in Lima, OH. Geneva loved the Lord and accepted the Lord as her savior at the age of 14. She was an active member of the Grace Baptist Church in Lima, OH for many years., having worked in the nursery during AWANA and teaching first grade Sunday school class. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, traveling and working with her flowers, especially roses. Geneva took many bouquets of roses to friends in nursing homes. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye football fan.
Surviving besides her husband Joe, are two sons, David (Brenda) Hixon of Westerville, OH and Mark (Lisa) Hixon of Taylor, MI, two granddaughters, Dr. Jennifer (Michael J.) Mangino of Cincinnati, OH and Emily (Matthew) Patrick of Columbus, OH, three great grandsons, Michael D. Mangino, Thomas Mangino and Maxwell Patrick, brothers in-law, Roy (Pauline) Hixon of Claremont, IL, Harry Nelson of North Brook, IL, sisters in-law, Leona Mae (David) Lucas of Mattoon, IL, Barbara Hixon of Claremont, IL and Linda Hixon of Flat Rock, IL and many nieces and nephews. She dearly loved her family and too many dear friends to mention.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, Ralph and Herbert Williams and sisters, Vera Williams, Edith Hawes, Eva Eytchison and Ione Nelson.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Grace Baptist Church. Officiating the service will be Pastor Matt Oliver. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL and then one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
