Fran Fritsche, 98, of Lima, Ohio peacefully entered into the presence of God Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016 at Primrose Retirement Community. If you were to ask Fran, she would have told you she was in her 99th year.

Fran was born in 1918 in Willoughby, Ohio to Ray & Anna Lamos, who preceded her in death. A graduate of Wittenberg University, Fran received her degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She continued participating in sorority activities throughout her life, including serving as Wittenberg University sorority campus advisor and with the local Lima chapter. Fran married William Fritsche in 1941, also a Wittenberg graduate, and together they settled in Lima in 1943. Bill and Fran had two children, Sue and Bill. Her husband preceded her in death in 1994.

Fran was a homemaker until she opened the Kiddie Korner, a children’s store, in 1951. In 1961, Fran and Bill built and leased the first McDonald’s restaurant on Allentown Road to a local franchise owner. Hamburgers were just 15 cents at the time. Following the closing of her store, Fran worked as a dietitian for Lima Memorial Hospital and later for St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima until her retirement.
Fran and Bill and the family enjoyed traveling, with many RV trips to Florida and throughout the western states. In addition, the family was busy with sporting activities during the kids’ high school years and boating on Lake Erie in the summers. Following retirement, Fran was a volunteer for St. Rita’s for many years. Throughout her entire life, she was an avid and excellent bridge player and continued playing until the past few months. Fran was a long time member of Market Street Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed many special friendships. Her circles of friends and traveling partners were very important to her following Bill’s death. Although in her later years her loss of eye sight slowed her down, she never lost her zeal for life, her keen mind, or her feistiness.

Fran is survived by her daughter Sue Ron Balazs of Sarasota, Florida, and her son Bill Barbara Fritsche, of Paonia, Colorado, as well as three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered and missed by her many friends, her Primrose family and her church family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Market Street Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 14th, beginning at 12:30 pm., officiated by Dotty Kaiser and Pastor Mark Rich. The family will have a private interment.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care she received from the Primrose staff, as well as several close friends who helped care for her the last few days of her life. Fran’s short illness was a blessing and her son was able to travel from Colorado to be by her side in her last hours.

Gifts to honor Fran’s life may be made to the Lima Rescue Mission, 216 E Wayne St, Lima, OH 45801, the Salvation Army, 614 E Market St, Lima, OH 45801, or Market Street Presbyterian Church, 1100 W Market St, Lima, OH 45805.
