Lima, OH
Dwight “Teddy” Younger Ellis, age 65, died on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 12:34 am at St. Rita’s Hospital. Teddy was born on September 1, 1955, in Lima, Ohio to the late Carroll Ellis and Clarabelle Younger. Teddy is survived by three nieces Tricia Cheney, Amy Cheney, and Nikki Aikens. Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Michele Cheney, and brothers Marvin Leffler and Jim.
Teddy graduated from Lima Senior High in 1975. During his high school career, Teddy served as team manager for the Spartans’ football, basketball, and baseball teams. Teddy worked at Jim Yarger’s Body Shop, Lima Memorial Hospital, McDonalds, and Marimor Industries, Inc., where he also served on the board.
Teddy was an avid sports fan throughout his life and continued to serve his alma mater for years by running the game clock at the Saturday morning JV football games. In 2019, Teddy joined the coaching staff of Lima Senior’s basketball and baseball team as an assistant coach.
In addition to his beloved Spartans, Teddy was an enthusiastic OSU fan, and never tired of attending OSU ball games with friends or independently. In February of 2019, Teddy was inducted into the Lima Senior Hall of Fame, an honor that stood out among the greatest moments in his life. That honor was followed shortly thereafter with the coveted invitation to serve as the Spartan at the subsequent home game.
To know Teddy was to know kindness, spirit, and resilience – qualities that led to an immense and dedicated network of friends across the community and state. We are infinitely grateful to the nurses from St. Rita’s who shared in his care. Particular thanks to Beth Moening, Rick “Cuz” Cheney, and Teddy’s friends at Marimor.
There will be a funeral service held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Major Debra Stacy. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be sent to Marimor Industries. Condolences may be expressed at www.chiles-lamanfh.com
