Dr. Ruhl Eugene Warden, 89, passed away at 7:28 a.m. on August 14, 2018 at Lima Memorial Health System after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ruhl was born January 5, 1929 in Leipsic to Lester Ruhl and Ova B. (Kirtland) Warden who preceded him in death. On December 6, 1950 he married June Irene Ford who died on March 10, 1971. On June 24, 1972 he married Martha Ellen Smith who survives in Lima.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He attended Ohio Northern University and then The Ohio State University Dental School. He practiced dentistry in Lima for 43 years, designing, constructing, and transporting (on the roof of his car) the 16′ toothbrush that stood in front of his Elm Street office. He frequently joked that the two-time theft of the giant toothbrush received more notoriety than he did. David Adams pictured the toothbrush and other city landmarks on a postcard he designed to promote the city of Lima.
Ruhl also enjoyed gardening and designing and fabricating craft projects.
He was a member of the NW Ohio Dental Association, the Lima Dental Association, the Israel Putnam Masonic Lodge 797 in Continental and the First Baptist Church in Lima.
He leaves a debt of gratitude to his first wife who steered him into a professional career and who stood by him through 8 years of college and his second wife who gave up a career in teaching to become a full-time wife and mother. A special thanks to the 3 long time employees: Barb Doty, Lori Williams, and Marsha Mangin who were very instrumental in keeping him on track. He appreciates the many people who became patients as well as long time friends, and family.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Cynthia Lee (Chip Heller) Warden of Glendale, CA, Rhonda Sue (Michael) Neumann of Kent, OH, a grandson, Frederick Neumann, a brother, Billy Dean Warden of Bowling Green, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES SHAWNEE CHAPEL and from 12:30 until time of services at 1:30 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church with Revs. David and Ellen Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Military Honors will be performed by the US Army.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church.
