Doyle Lee “Poppy” Corson, age 90, was called into the presence of the Lord at 12:20 am Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Van Crest Nursing Home, Delphos.

Doyle was born February 11, 1926 in Metropolis, IL, to the late Clifford R. and Oda S. Leukering Corson. On January 18, 1948 he married the love of his life, Beverly Jane “Nanny” Gray Corson who preceded him in death on May 9, 2007 after 59 wonderful years of marriage.

Doyle worked in construction alongside his sons around the Lima area and neighboring states for many years. He employed several ministers and policeman with part-time help and was owner/operator of Corson’s Doors and Supplies. Doyle was a talented musician who enjoyed singing and playing the banjo and guitar. He was a 25 year member and Past Master of Bluffton Lodge #217 Free & Accepted Masons, Lima Chapter 49 Royal Arch Masons, Lima Council No. 20 Royal & Select Masons, Past Commander of Shawnee Commandery No. 14 Knights Templar and he was a 32nd Degree Mason Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo. Doyle was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marines, serving during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was blessed with eight children, Gregory Sue Corson of Hudson, WI, Michael Joyce Corson of Groveport, Randy Susan Corson of Columbus Grove, Christine Ann Chuck Sloan of Elida, Joseph Brian Corson, who preceded him in death, Benjamin Dottie Corson of Moore, OK, Jon Cheri Corson of California, MD and Mark Lisa Corson of Bluffton; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include, daughter-in-law, Jane E. Corson French, of Grand Haven, MI, six sisters, Thelma Roby of Toledo, his twin sister, Dorothy “Dot” Richard Kaufmann of El Dorado, KA, Jeniece Meier of Lima, Dixie Luoma of New Brighton, MN, Patricia McDaniel of CA and Sue Dean Godwin of GA and brother-in-law, Larry Beth Gray of Hammond, LA.

He is preceded in death by: two brothers, William Mary Corson and Lloyd Corson; two Sisters, Alice “Ri” Don Smith and Joyce Dale Smith; two brothers-in-law, Les Roby and John Luoma and sister-in-law, Pat Conces.

Funeral services will begin 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Gerbert Darlington will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marines and VFW #1275.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday, July 25, at the funeral home.
