Donald “Don” S. Hooks, 81 of Lima, passed away January 21, 2019 at Lima Memorial Health System.

Don was born July 5, 1937 in Lima to Donald and Roma (Reed) Hooks, who preceded him in death. On November 21, 1997 he married Linda (Steinke) Hooks, who survives him in Lima.

Don graduated from Lima Central High School and was a proud United States Army veteran. He worked at DTI Railroad, Elder Pharmaceuticals, the Ohio State Beauty Academy as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and retired from Professional Transportation Incorporated. He was an Ohio High School Athletic Association referee for boy’s basketball for 38 years, football for 25 years and 6 years at Mid-American Conference Girl’s College Basketball. Don had a love of Lionel Trains; he would travel to train shows and he took pride in his collection and teaching his grandsons about the trains.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his sons, Jeffrey D. (Patty Hauck) Hooks and Kevin C. (Amy) Hooks; daughters, Terri C. (Dean) Armstrong and Michelle L. (John) Guisinger; Linda’s children, Jay A. Steinke and Todd M. (Michelle) Steinke; grandchildren, Brody, Jordon, Aron, Jenna and Casey Hooks, Courtney, Danielle and Devin Armstrong; great-granddaugther, Zoey Armstrong; grandchildren, Trevor and Trent Guisinger, Cole, Gage and Lane Steinke; sister, Jane D. Cheuvront and his brother, Reed David Hooks.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ralph E. Hooks.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 24, 2019, 5:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
