Donald R. Ford, age 83, passed away January 19, 2017, at 1:45 pm, surrounded by his family at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL. Don was born February 5, 1933 in Lima, OH, to Jesse and Cora (Flowers) Ford who preceded him in death. On November 18, 1951 he married Carolyn M. (Brown) Ford who preceded him in death on January 15, 2004. He then later married Gladys I. Ford who survives in Florida.
Don was a 1950 graduate of the Lima Central High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean War as a Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class. He spent his career working with the U.S. Postal Service. He began in the Lima Post Office and retired as Post Master with the Columbus Grove Post Office. After he retired he spent his time working as one of the first greeters at Meijer’s. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Don loved golfing and spending his winters in Florida with his family.
Don is survived by his children; Donna (Tim) Longmeier of Lima, OH, Laura Ford of Hilton Head, NC and Steven (Kim) Ford of Mooresville, NC, 3 grandchildren; Adam (Kylie) Longmeier of Lima, OH, Trey Ford and Riley Ford of Mooresville, NC, 3 great grandchildren; Dylan Longmeier, Liam Longmeier and Asher Longmeier and a sister in-law, Jan Ford of Cridersville, OH. He was preceded in death by3 brothers; Louie (Millie) Ford, Raymond (Dora) Ford and Eldon Ford, 2 sisters; Helen (Don) Miller and Joan (Todd) Frankhouser.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rob White. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum following the service.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-8 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or the Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Condolences may be expressed at chiles-lamanfh.com
