Donald A. “Don” Dieringer, age 92, passed away at 1:05 pm Thursday, July 20, 2017.

Don was born January 30, 1925 in Wapakoneta to the late Henry Joseph and Catherine Agnes (Will) Dieringer. On July 17, 1948 he married Marcella Louise “Marcie” Dieringer. They were married for 65 years before she passed on June 9, 2013.

Don graduated in 1943 from Cridersville High School. In May 1943, he was inducted into the Army and served in the Pacific Theatre with the 325 AAA SLT BN. He ended up in Okinawa at the end of World War II and was honorably discharged January 26, 1946. While in the Army he received a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon, and World War II Victory Medal.

Don had worked at the Ohio Power as an appliance serviceman, a sheet metal journey man at Clevenger Sheet Metal, National Cornice Sheet Metal, and retired from Nacor as a shop foreman. After retiring he enjoyed the friendships he made while volunteering as an escort and in the outpatient lab at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was an Ohio State Buckeye and Cincinnati Reds fan!

He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Life Member of Spencerville VFW 6772, Life Member of Wapakoneta K of C Council #1272, Lima Memorial Auxiliary, and a former member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #54.

He was blessed with three children, Gregory Alan Dieringer who preceded him in death, Mark (Kaille) Dieringer and Karen (Timothy) Swick both of Lima; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Strapp, Julie (Shawn) Grime, Jon (Anna) Dieringer, Alex Dieringer, Claire Dieringer and Meredith Swick; Great-grandchildren, Amanda Strapp, Ryan Strapp, Logan Grime, Ella Grime, Sarah Dieringer and Thomas Dieringer.

In addition to his parents, wife and son he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Sally) Dieringer and infant brother, James Dieringer.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:30 am Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2200 W. Elm St, Lima, Ohio 45805. Father’s Stephen Blum and Chris Jusudhason will officiate the service. Entombment will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Spencerville VFW Post #6772 and the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday, July 23, 2017, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. A Parish Wake service will begin 6:00 pm Sunday following the visitation.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or Donor’s choice.
