Dewey “Jim” Hurst, 80, passed away suddenly July 13, 2023 at 12:22 PM at Lima Memorial Hospital in lima Ohio due to cardiac issues, surrounded by his loving family. Dewey was born in Frakes, Kentucky on March 13th, 1942 to Clarence Hurst and Versa Jane (Powers).
Dewey was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany and was honorably discharged in June of 1964. He worked for Toledo pressed steel in his younger years as well as a tree trimmer for Blanchard Tree service in Toledo Ohio. His latter years was spent with Waste Management in Lima, Ohio before retiring.
He enjoyed boating and fishing throughout his lifetime and loved and cherished his family and friends , he especially enjoyed breakfast with his buddy Danny and meeting the fellas at Kewpee’s for coffee and donuts. He was a great guitarist, with a beautiful voice.
Dewey was always on the go, working on little projects at his home and helping anyone in time of need. He was a true born again Christian that loved the Lord.
Dewey is survived by his daughter Mary Hurst of Saint Petersburg, Florida son, Dewey Hurst Jr. of Toledo, Ohio , his children’s mother Irene Hurst of Toledo, OH, grandson Jason (Amy) Slasinski Jr., of St. Petersburg, Florida, Grandson Mahlon J Washington of St. Petersburg, Florida, Dewey Hurst III (Maggie) of Oak Harbor, Ohio, grandson, Joshua Hurst of Toledo, Ohio, granddaughter, Autumn Hurst of Toledo, Ohio, and great grandchildren, Eric, Bobby and Aaliyah all of Toldeo, Ohio.
His brothers, Huey Hurst(Toni) of Toledo, Ohio, Haggard Hurst of Wharton, Texas, Steve Hurst(Peggy) of Temperance, Michigan, Ron Hurst of Toledo, OH, sisters, Helen Norton (Rick) of Sidney, Ohio, and Lorraine Bayse (Rocky) of Sidney, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Dewey is preceded in death by his son, Daniel G. Hurst, parents, Clarence and Versa Jane Hurst and wife, Deborah Hurst.
YOU will truly be missed by all.
Rest in Heaven Dad, Grandpa, brother, uncle, best friend.
No services will be held for Dewey at this time.
He will be laid to rest in Bay Pines National Cemetery in Saint Petersburg, Florida at the convenience of the family.
