David R. Sanderson, 63, passed away October 26, 2018, at 2:16 pm, at his residence surrounded by his amazing and loving family. David was born February 2, 1955 “You know…I am a Ground Hog”, in Lima, OH, to Robert E. and Lois J. (Cole) Sanderson. His father preceded him in death in 2014 and his sister Pam Lowther in 2003, his dear mother survives in Lima. On August 26, 1978, he married Lisa C. (Brown) Sanderson who survives in Lima. They were blessed to celebrate 40 years of marriage this year. David was a 1973 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He loved playing football at Lima Senior as a Linebacker and Fullback and he also played football in College. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Baldwin Wallace College and then a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He gained additional education through Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA specializing in Analysis Engineering. David worked for Bruel and Kjaer in Hoffman Estates, IL as a Sound and Vibration Engineer for 5 years. He then took an Engineering position with Caterpillar, Inc. at the Peoria Proving Grounds in East Peoria, IL where most of his emphasis was in sound, vibration and cooling. His job titles changed and evolved over the years but still remained dedicated to his love of sound and vibration analysis. He valued being an Engineer and spent his entire working career doing what he loved until he retired in 2012. David was a life long member of South Side Christian Church. He was a passionate wood worker, able to cut and mill his own lumber and create masterpieces. He took great pleasure in being able to assist or complete other people’s projects from the “lists” they provided him. Indeed, he had a servant’s heart. David loved Candy, he loved Ice Cream, he loved Classic Rock, he loved Big Ol’ Jet Airliners and he loved THE Ohio State University Buckeyes. You could always find him outside spending hours mowing the grass, working in his shop or painstakingly mixing birdseed to feed the birds he so enjoyed watching. Through the years with all of his professional accomplishments, the former and current patents he was responsible for, and the numerous awards he received; none were nearly as important to him as the deep abiding love he had for his wife, his only son, his daughter-in-law and his precious grandchildren. In addition to his wife and mother, David is survived by his son, Andrew (Kristin) Sanderson of Lebanon, TN and his 2 grandchildren: Samuel Andrew Sanderson and Molly Harper Sanderson of Lebanon, TN, 3 siblings: Scott (Cheryl) Sanderson of Elida, Sally (Mike) Middaugh of Lima, OH, Penny (Rob) Whittler of Lima, OH, his mother in-law, Doris J. Brown of Ashland, OH. David had many nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews. He loved his mother and his entire family with all his heart and he cherished every moment with his friends. Our family is so grateful to St. Rita’s Hospice for the loving and compassionate care he received, and a very special Thank you to his wonderful nurses: Betsy, Kim, Jackie and Rhonda. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018, at 11:00 am at the South Side Christian Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. Todd Cosart and Rev. Wanda Werking.
