Darrell A. Long, 81, of Elida, passed away at 2:29 PM on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 5, 1943 in Gomer to Walter and Naomi (Baker) Long, who both preceded him in death. On August 31, 1963, he married Marcine Layman, who survives in Elida.

Darrell was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Elida and was the former owner of Long’s Custom Doors. He was a hard worker, always on the go and loved to make people laugh. Having farmed for over two decades, he never lost his love of John Deere tractors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing where he always caught the biggest fish and had the longest drive.

His true legacy lies in the love and memories he cultivated with his family. His legacy will live on through the laughter, lessons, and cherished moments he shared with his grandsons, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife of almost 60 years Marcine Long are his sons Mark (Cindy) Long and Brad (Theresa) Long, both of Elida; his daughters Kim Long of Cincinnati and Melissa Long of Elida; his grandchildren Zachary (Mackenzie) Long, Tyler Rambin, Braden (Moriah) Long, Hunter (Rachel) Rambin, Collin (McKenzie) Rambin and Alex Long; his great-granddaughter Lucille Long. Also surviving are his brothers Glenn (Kathy) Long of Elida and Wayne (Pam) Long of Lima; his sisters Mae Miller and Janette Mohler both of Brookville: sister-in-law Marlene Long of Lima; brother-in-law Orville Bowman of Elida.

He was preceded in death by his brother Carl Long; sisters Ruth Bowman and Gladys Long; brothers-in-law Kenneth Miller and Glenn Mohler.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, August 11, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Grace Community Church, 4359 Allentown Road, Lima, with Pastor Tom Cooper officiating.
