Constance “Connie” E. Strayer, age 85, passed away August 20, 2018, at 8:30 pm, at the Elmcroft Assisted Living of Lima. Connie was born October 1, 1932 in Lima, OH, to Noah and Frances (Bessire) Shenk who preceded her in death.
Connie was a 1951 graduate of Elida High School. After high school she focused on raising her family. During this time, she also helped her husband run their insurance company, the Strayer Insurance Company. Later, she took a position as an Administrative Assistant with AEP and worked there for 25 years until she retired. Connie was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she served in many different capacities. She was also a member of the Alpha Theta Sorority where she had been very active. Connie was an avid sports fan with her favorite teams being Elida Bulldogs, Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She truly loved the beach at Ocean Isle, NC.
Connie is survived by her 2 sons: Michael (Susan) Strayer of Columbus, OH and J. Scott (Vanessa) Strayer of Lima, OH, 4 granchildren: Abigail Strayer, Andrew Strayer, Mack (Michaela) Strayer and Jeffrey Strayer and 1 great-grandchild, Talena, 2 sisters: Kay Fowler of Lima, OH and Shirley (Duane) Hall of Amherst, OH and a brother in-law, Don Follas of Arlington, OH. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Strayer, 2 sisters; Jeanie Follas and Pat (Don) Newland and a brother in-law, Gary Fowler.
There will be a private entombment service held in the Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date. Officiating the service will be Rev. Megan Croy.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 4-6 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
