Colleen C. Hazell, age 92, passed away July 31, 2018, at 1:12 am, at the Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center. Colleen was born December 18, 1925 in Bluffton, OH, to Garold and Treva B. (Patterson) Arnold who preceded her in death. On November 3, 1945 she married James R. Hazell who preceded her in death on November 2, 2006.
Colleen was a 1943 graduate of the Lima South High School. After high school she worked at the Lima Police Department as a Deputy Clerk. She then worked as a receptionist with Dr. David Barr for several years and then quit to focus on raising her family. Colleen was a member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for more than 60 years where she had been very active. She had also been a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club. She had volunteered with the American Red Cross and had been a member of the Lima Senior Spartan Boosters. Colleen also loved to watch tennis. She will always be remembered as being put together with class.
Colleen is survived by her children: Scott (Matula) Hazell of Tempe, AZ, Kay (James) Frey of Westerville, OH and Doug (Linda) Hazell of Punta Gorda, FL, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, a son in-law, Tom Charlton of New Kingston, RI and a sister in-law, Peg Nichols of Lima, OH. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Lynne Charleton.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. Ted Bible. Burial of cremated remains will be held privately at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church
