Clifford Earl Burkart, 92, passed away at 4:24 am January 15, 2019 at Promedica Toledo Hospital.
He was born January 18, 1926 in Jackson Township in Hardin County to Bernard L. and Lucille (Robinson) Burkart who preceded him in death. On February 23, 1961 he married Rose Eileen Gary who preceded him in death on November 24, 1999.
Clifford “Burky” was a retired 35 year veteran of the Lima Police Department starting as a motorcycle cop and working his way up to detective. He was a US Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #54 serving as a trustee for over 25 years, FOP Lodge #21, and the Eagles Lodge #370. He really enjoyed restoring cars, bowling, and having a Budweiser with family and friends. He was a lot of things to a lot of people and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include: a Daughter, Terry (Dennis) Salazar of Cridersville; a Granddaughter, Heather E. (Adam) Turpen of Columbus; a Brother, Denny W. Burkart of Jasper, FL; a Sister, Deenie (Jim) Morris of Waynesfield; and a multitude of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by: a nephew, Stephen Burkart.
Friends may call from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday and from 1:00 pm until time of services at 2:00 pm Friday at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Tim Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery where the Lima Police Department Honor Guard will conduct military honors. An Elks Lodge of Sorrow service will be held at 8:00 pm Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the FOP Cops and Kids Program.
