Clarence Eugene “Gene” Anspach Jr., 91 of Lima, passed away at 1:54 PM on January 11, 2019 at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center. Gene was born September 19, 1927 in Hardin County to the late Clarence and Trolis (Carey) Anspach. On May 9, 1948 he married Betty I. Reams, who preceded him in death on April 12, 2006.
Mr. Anspach was a 1945 graduate of Lafayette Jackson High School and he was a veteran having served in the Army from 1946 to 1948. He was a long-standing member of the Lafayette Congregational Christian Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 199 in Lima as well as the American Legion 96, also in Lima. Gene worked as a master plumber during his long career and was a member of the Plumber & Pipefitters Local 776 in Lima for over 42 years.
Gene is survived by his two sons; Dennis (Nancy) of Edina, MN, Michael (Marcene) of Sylvania, OH, daughter Diane (Al) Coffey of Lima, sister Betty Shadley of Lima, and sister Rosemary (Roger) Plaugher of Bluffton. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Kirstin Anspach and Jonathan (Tiffany) Anspach both of Lima, Heather Wiseman, Sylva, NC and Matt (Jenn) Coffey, Delaware, OH. Survivors also include nine great-grandchildren: Madison, James, Melena, Devin, Nathaniel, Summer, Makenzi, Mia, and Maxwell. Additionally Gene had numerous nieces and nephews, many great-nephews and -nieces as well as great-grandnephews and -grandnieces residing in Ohio and throughout the country. He was preceded in death by a brother; Robert Anspach of Findlay, OH and a sister; Mildred Long of Ada, OH.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES – EASTSIDE CHAPEL with Rev. Charles Moeller to officiate the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
