On September 4, 2016 Charles Thomas “Tom” Elkins met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face. Tom passed at his home with his wife at his side following a brave and valiant battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Tom was born on August 31, 1949 in Ashland, Kentucky to Charles Warren and Patricia Lucille Elkins, who preceded him in death. Tom graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky, and attended Morehead University in Morehead, Kentucky. Tom was a Specialist 5th Class (E5) in the Kentucky National Guard. He worked diligently for Wilson Sporting Goods and Metokote Corporation. Tom spent many years serving at Shawnee Church of Christ and was a current member of Shawnee Alliance Church.

On July 26, 1968 Tom married the love of his life and best friend, Glenna Lee Elkins (Kouns). They spent the next forty-eight years deeply in love, building a beautiful family, and making memories.

Those who knew Tom, knew laughter and wisdom. He was a gifted story teller, teacher, and leader. He humbly served his God by serving others. Tom loved to travel and was always eager to marvel at God’s majesty. He enjoyed taking in a movie on the weekend and holding his Sweetie’s hand. He loved to be entertained by good stories. From Broadway to Andy Griffith, he delighted in them all. His favorite was NCIS. He valued and modeled hard work and enjoyed his job. But the thing that made Tom the happiest was his family. He was their protector, joke teller, advice giver, handy man, and biggest fan. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and fun-loving Papaw. Tom made the world’s best pancakes, loved a good hot dog, and churned unforgettable homemade ice cream.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna, of Lima, Ohio, his two daughters, Erica L. Croft (Tom) of Lima, Ohio and Erin L. Longacre (Ben) of Newark, Ohio, his seven grandchildren, Abby Deeds (Scott), Josh Croft, Brady Croft, Taylor Croft, Olivia Longacre, Isabella Longacre, and AJ Croft, and his three great grand-children Caden Croft, Parker Deeds, and Annistyn Deeds. His one sister Patricia DeMooy (Larry) and three brothers Steven Elkins, Randy Elkins (Cynde), and Kevin Elkins.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2016 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Dr. Daniel Messner will officiate the service.
