Betty Lou (Curry) Smith, 88, formerly of Lima, OH, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at her daughter’s residence in Lake Wales, FL.
She was born March 25, 1932 in Waynesboro, VA to Charles and Samantha (Siron) Curry who preceded her in death. On June 5, 1954 she married James H. Smith, Sr, who preceded her in death on January 26, 2012.
Betty was a billing clerk at Nickels Bakery and Standard Oil of Ohio/BP from where she retired. She attended Open Door Baptist Church in Lima, OH and Garden Grove Church in Winter Haven, FL. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Sohio/BP, ABWA, and the Moose Lodge. Betty enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, collecting Precious Moments, camping, spending time with her family and with “her girls”. Betty was a meticulous record keeper. She was a loving and devoted caregiver to her late husband during his final years.
Betty is survived by her children, James H. Smith, Jr. (Diana) of Haines City, FL, Lynn Robert Smith (Michelle) of Lima, OH, and Janet Marie Rodden (Greg) of Lake Wales, FL, sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by her son, David A. Smith, nine siblings; and a granddaughter, Mindy Ann Smith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL HOMES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. A funeral service will follow with Pastor William Turner officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to Open Door Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1812 University Blvd, Lima, OH 45805.
Special thank you goes out to Janet Rodden (Greg) and family for there sacrificial love and devotion as primary care givers for the past several years.
