Benson “Ben” K. Carey, 85 of Lafayette, passed away April 1, 2023, at his home.

Ben was born July 12, 1937 in Lima, to Stephen L. and Mildred (Snyder) Carey, who preceded him in death. On August 3, 1958, he married the love of his life, Joyce (Kisner) Carey, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2019.

Ben was a 1955 graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School and worked as an electrician for Local 32 for 60 years, the last nine of which he spent working at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He retired in 1999. Ben was a member of County Line Church of the Brethren and he enjoyed fishing and golf. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his great-grandchildren. Ben will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his son, Steve (Becky) Carey; daughter-in-law, Lori Carey; sisters, Janice Lawrence and Dawn (Scott) Dodds; grandchildren, Mitchell (Angela) Carey, Garrett (Courtney) Carey, Stephannie Carey and Trenton (Caitlyn) Carey and his great-grandchildren, Theadora Raber, Penelope Raber, Malachi Carey, Silas Carey, Israel Carey and Benson Carey.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ben is preceded in death by his son, Mark Carey and his brother-in-law, Jim Lawrence.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL with Rev. Tom Dearth to officiate the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
