Barbara Jean Hefner Bowersock, 92 of Lima, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 8:52 PM at Liberty Nursing Center.

Barbara was born November 11, 1926 in Allen County to Charley and Martha Cretoria Fetter Hefner, who preceded her in death. On May 20, 1946, she married Roy C. Bowersock, who died on January 27, 2006.

Barbara was a 1944 graduate of Shawnee High School and played trumpet in the Shawnee marching band. After being a housewife for many years, she earned her real estate license and sold real estate for about 40 years. Barbara was an agent at Bob Morton Realty, Roeder Realty, Lockwood Real Estate, Ron Spencer Real Estate, and Slonaker Realty. She played an integral role in the development of the Lake Estates subdivision on Reservoir Road.

Barbara was always civic minded and involved in the community. She was a member of the Union Chapel Missionary Church where she taught a Sunday School class, was involved with Vacation Bible School, and the children’s choir. Barbara organized a Good News Club in her home for the neighborhood children. She was also a member of the Lima Baptist Temple where she sang in the choir. Barbara served as President of both the Perry PTA and the Perry School Board. For several years, she canvassed for donations to the March of Dimes. Barbara was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and was the Coordinator of the DAV van drivers. She was awarded the DAV Volunteer of the Year in 1998. Barbara loved to sing and sang in a barbershop quartet with her sisters. She also sang in the Belles & Beaus and the Sweet Adelines.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel R. (Gloria) Bowersock of Lima and Douglas C. (Joanna) Bowersock of Pickerington; two daughters, Deborah J. Marsh of Sheridan, IN and Denise Beauchamp of Pickerington; two sisters, Lois Warren and Ida Cathryn “Kate” (Larry) Blunden of Lima; four grandsons, David Marsh, Charlie (Sarah) Beauchamp, Erik Bowersock and Gunnar Bowersock; three stepgrandchildren, Carla Harris, Jeffrey Lee, and Jeremy Piercefield; and three great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and four step-great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Bill and Nancy Hogan.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deanna Marsh; a brother, the Rev. Joseph Hefner; and two sisters, Eulalie “Lee” DeLong and Phyllis Barnt.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Union Chapel Missionary Church with Rev. Mark Bayliff to officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2019 and from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
