Alice Marie Kinney Metz went home to be with the Lord, October 10, 2014 at Springview Manor, Lima, Ohio with her family at her side.

Marie was born to Frederick and Edith Kinney in Buffalo, New York, July 13, 1912. Upon the death of her mother in 1917, Marie resided with her grandparents, Edward and Mary Kinney, in Oil City, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed many excursions by train with her grandfather, who was train master of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Marie graduated from Oil City High School, where she was vice-president of her senior class, and from Byrant Stratton College in Buffalo.

On October 31, 1931, Marie married Carl Joseph Metz, also from Oil City. Carl died in 1973 following retirement from the Buckeye Pipeline.

Marie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for 66 years, and faithfully read her prayer books and prayed the rosary. She was a volunteer for St. Rita’s Hospital for 25 years.

Marie was an avid newspaper reader, bridge player and loved Big Band music. She was interested in sports, particularly baseball and the New York Mets, and was known for her personal style and her love of hats. She enjoyed typing long letters to her children and grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Edie Weis Gaertner, Lima, Ohio; son Joe Elissa Metz, Rockville Centre, New York; nine grandchildren: Deborah Weis, Lexington, Kentucky; Cheryl Eugene Rutter, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jeff Mary Weis, Lima, Ohio; Karen Craig Enlow, Danville, Kentucky; Doug Lynette Weis, Knoxville, Illinois; Regina Metz, Washington, D.C.; Mary Elissa Matthew York, Rockville Centre, New York; and Edward Allison Metz, Washington D.C; 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joe; her brother, Ed Kinney; grandson, Joe Jr.; great-grandchildren, Eugene and Courtney. And, in 2012, the year of her 100th birthday, her youngest child, Rod, who died at age 70.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at St. Rose Catholic Church. Father David Ross will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
